Prospective Student FAQ’s

How long is the program?
10½ months (45 weeks). Monday-Thursday, 4 hours a day.
What are the class schedule options?
We have three scheduling options, but all students attend class 4 days a week, Monday – Thursday.

  • Morning:  9a-1p
  • Afternoon:  1:30p-5:30p
  • Evening:  6p-10p
How do I enroll?

In order to enroll at Northwestern Tech, you must first meet with an admissions advisor. To make an appointment with admissions you can call 248-826-2574

How many programs does Northwestern Tech offer?
We offer one program: Climate Control Technology.
What certifications do students receive?
  1. EPA 609 Auto Air Certification
  2. Trac Pipe Certification
  3. R-410a Certification
  4. EPA 608 Universal Certification
What are the acceptance requirements?

In order to receive Federal Financial Aid, you must have a High School diploma or a GED. If you don’t require federal financial aid, you are able to take an ATB Test to gain acceptance into the school without a HS diploma or GED. What does HVAC stand for?
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning. In HVAC/R, the R is for Refrigeration.

Financial Aid FAQ’s

What is the cost of the program?
The cost of the Northwestern Tech HVAC program for the 2014/2015 academic year includes tuition and textbooks. Entering students are assured no increase in tuition with continuous enrollment. The amounts shown are for normal course completion. The cost of Living Expenses will need to be determined by each student based on their plans while attending the HVAC program. Cost of Program

  • Tuition and fees: $15,956
  • Books and supplies: $0

Living Expenses

  • Housing, food, utilities expenses
  • Personal Expenses
  • Transportation
  • Misc.

Total Cost of Attendance includes both expenses.

What kinds of financial aid are accepted?
We have several financial aid options available to those that qualify, including:

  • Federal Grant
  • Student Loans
  • TAA Benefits
  • Veteran Benefits
  • MI Works! grants
Difference between loans and grants?
Grants – Student aid funds that do not have to be repaid. Most federal grants are based on financial need. Loans – Borrowed money that must be repaid with interest.

Graduate FAQ’s

How do I retake a certification test?

Contact Sharon at the front desk by calling 248-358-4006. She is registered proctor and can administer the test M-Th, 9a-7p. There is a nominal fee for retaking a test.

How do I refresh a class?

As a graduate, you are allowed to re-take any class you took while attending, FOR FREE, as long as there is room in the class. This benefit does not expire.

What are Career Fair's and when are they?

Career Fair’s are when we invite 10-20 employers out to meet with our recent graduates  – think of it as a job fair just for our graduates and the employers looking to hire them. We do them twice a year (one in the fall and one in the spring) when HVAC companies do most of there hiring.

Do you have a job posting board?

No. We prefer to discuss the position with you and hand-pick top candidates for your consideration. You know what you are looking for, and we know the graduates – we feel this relationship based “match-making” is the best way, and we’ve had great success for 35 years doing it this way.
